Tetris Didn't Triumph at This Gaming Ceremony — Another Award Type Could Fix That

Each time a major awards ceremony approaches, one notices an outcry to include fresh award types to recognize underappreciated efforts and satisfy the spirits of fans with niche passions.

Another commentator made the case advocating for terror-themed awards. It would be amazing. The same goes for strategy board titles, representing someone's personal cause. But they will have to forgive me for pushing forward because like all dedicated enthusiasts, there's a strong justification for why my demand stands as crucial and significant. Here's the proposal: There should be a classification for brain-teasing titles.

Categorizing Game Types

Organizing artistic expressions is not a science; it’s very subjective, and typically start arguments resulting in unclear classifications. It's understandable that movie academies don’t do it. Yet it remains an essential concession for the industry of gaming, that demonstrate such variety it's challenging to consider them a single creative category.

To recognize the complete range of achievement in video games to be recognized, while allowing diverse titles to have a chance for representation, classification by type becomes crucial.

Existing Game Classification System

Prominent interactive entertainment events currently feature genre categories for Action, Action/Adventure, RPG experiences, Combat games, Simulation and strategy titles, and Sports/Racing games. Together, these award types actually cover numerous genres, making space possible for numerous titles.

This doesn't apply to puzzle games. No appropriate category exists to put them. Consider three of recent excellent titles, showing diverse approaches: structural challenges of one title, fast-paced pattern recognition in a different title, engaging interpersonal challenges from additional release. Which classification works between these six categories? Unfortunately, nowhere.

Recognition Challenges

Many instances occur of brilliant puzzle games released every year lacking appropriate categories in entertainment awards, if they accidentally match for categories like Handheld titles, Virtual reality experiences, or the intensely contested small studio competitions.

  • One classic puzzle game got overlooked for anything in 2014
  • Another imaginative release missed out that year
  • A beloved organization game was overlooked that year
  • Just some logic titles barely qualified for niche award types

Value of Brain-Teasers

Commonly they're modest productions, however the design in brain-teasers is of massive significance. Well-known matching games count as most popular titles worldwide and have been for many years.

The iconic tile-matching title competes with well-known building titles for the title of best-selling game of all time; it’s also in the running for top gaming experience. Brain-teasers form essential building blocks within interactive entertainment, and they are in conversation with almost every other genre.

The Solution and Justification

Brain-teasers wouldn't encounter that issue. You could fill a field of five interesting, varied, worthy titles every year with ease — perhaps, with difficulty, since numerous excellent numerous deserving experiences.

Restating the point, these represent titles that otherwise have no home during prominent ceremonies. Puzzle game makers operate at the challenging frontier of video game design, producing among most fundamental forms of gaming itself. Just like movie stunt professionals, they deserve recognition. We shouldn't delay decades.
