Had their campaign falling apart, or had there never been a thread maintaining its structure from the beginning? Matteo's Surprising Presence
A single player remained positive through it. Matteo Cancellieri wasn't originally meant to remain with Lazio this season. The club's longtime sporting director, Igli Tare, who departed after that campaign, later stated Sarri of "informing all Cancellieri would be a star but then not selecting him."
Discovering His Best Role
Maybe Sarri was still trying to work out the exact type of the player's talent. Billed as a flank player upon signing, Cancellieri yet was deployed for much of that season as an ineffective backup to Ciro Immobile at No 9.
